Salomon Q-90

Salomon Q-90 is a versatile middle-range all mountain ski that will introduce you to some off piste riding. If you are intermediate skier who is planning to advance but you wish to improve on many different styles, this might be the one ski that will suit all your needs. With combining classic camber construction and rocker technology at the very tip of the skis, the Q-90 is doing well on both piste and powder. Here are some specs from Salomon:

  • Semi sandwich sidewalls (increases maneuverability)
  • Full woodcore (gives stiff response)
  • Wide edges (more durable)
  • Hook Free Taper (makes those powder turns easier)

I had an opportunity to test them during 2 week trip to Kaunertal and I have to admit that all in all the Salomon Q-90 is a well-designed pair of skis. If you are looking for just one pair of skis to ride them all it might be just the right choice. Is there anything I would like to see improved? Well, not really… I have to point out however that the construction of all mountain skis might disappoint some of the purists. At 90mm width, they won’t be a killer on those tight-carving turns on hard snow and they are not as convenient as sport skis. On the other hand, big powder turns are also a little bit compromised and you have to overcompensate the lack of width with speed and/or technique. But to be honest – there is no terrain Q-90 would fail on. They are just good pair of skis.
